STUNNING UPSET RESULT.

GRAEME Rogerson, by his own admission, sells the racing dream.

And those dreams became a $1 million reality yesterday when Econsul stunned his rivals in yesterday’s Caulfield Guineas.

A $41 chance, Econsul provided one of the biggest upsets in Guineas since Abaridy, a $251 chance, won the 1986 edition of the race.

The colt, part-owned by Rogerson and leading Sydney bookmaker Colin Tidy, was given a dream ride by Chris Munce, who fought through the pain barrier of a left ankle trodden by a horse at Canterbury on Thursday night.

While others might have lost faith, including Tidy, who declared on race eve the colt could not win, Rogerson remained adamant Econsul could match it with his more fancied rivals.

Boom Sydney colt Fastnet Rock, backed from $7.50 to $6.50 , performed many lengths below his Sydney best to finish eighth.

Glen Boss said Fastnet Rock never let down and “curled up” underneath him, which led him to believe something might be amiss.

“He’s taken a step back by a couple of lengths since he came to Melbourne,” Boss said.

“Something is not right.”

Sentimental favorite, Siddy Sidebottom dropped out of the race early. His trainer said, "there are no excuses, but I think weight eventually caught up with him. Weight'll stop a tram."

Despite not having picked a single winner on Saturday, we shall attempt to reverse that trend over the coming week, and we will be meeting with members of the Vice Regal Comments Award panel (all of whom comfortably retained their seats) in The Sir John Single-Malt Memorial Wet-cupboarded Government House Library. It's a tough job, but somebody has to drink it.
